HOW TO SPROUT LENTILS RECIPE – FOOD.COM

Yield: 1 cup
|1/2 cup lentils (I use brown lentils)|
|2 cups water|
- Place lentils in a quart jar and cover with 2 cups water .
- Cover the top of the jar with cheesecloth(sometimes I use a clean thin washcloth) and secure with a rubber band.
- Let sit in water overnight(12 hours).
- The next day drain off water.
- Rinse and drain once or twice daily and keep out of sunlight.
- On the third day (some people wait till the 4th) you will have sprouts with about a 1/4-1/2" tail on them. They are ready!
- Place in glass jar or plastic jar or bag.
- They shouldn’t be too wet. I use the jar that I used to sprout with.
- Keep in fridge.
- Use on salads, as a snack, in stir fries, ground up in spreads. When I’m halfway through the jar I start a new one. Enjoy!

How do you sprout lentils in a jar?
Turn the jar upside down, propped up on chopstick for drainage and air circulation, or lay the jar on it’s side. Come back to your lentils twice a day and give them a rinse and drain. After 24 hours you may start to see little tails forming. After 2 – 3 days your sprouted lentils are ready to eat.
How to grow lentils from fresh lentils?
The lentils must soak for at least 8 hours. Your hot water cupboard or in the kitchen near to where to cooking is happening can make nice warm places to encourage germination. Drain the lentils. Pour off the water the next day. Leave the muslin cover in place while pouring (this keeps the lentils in there). Turn the jar upside down and drain well.
